My Friend, My Harp By Arthur Lee

I am an eight year old boy and most of the time I like to read, ride my bike, and play with my brother.

One spring night, my parents took me to a recital held by Kim Robertson. That was the first time I attented a concert, and it was also the first time I heard the harp. I enjoyed the music,- it was warm, festive, and jolly. During the intermission, I took a good long look at the harp. It was very delicate, pretty and vintage, like an antique. In May last year I started my first harp lesson on the harp. I like my lessons very much and I know my harp will be my friend forever.

We asked Arthur a few questions:

My Dream By Alex Lee

My name is Alex. I am six years old and I am in the first grade. The first time I heard the harp was from my radio at my room. I thought it sounded beautiful and it was different from the other instruments I knew. The second time I heard the music of the harp was from a concert played by Kim Robertson. The music touched my heart and I learned that the music on the radio was played on a harp. That night, I dreamed a harp on the roof came down on my porch!

Last May, I started my first harp lesson with Verlene [Schermer]. I found that it is truly the instrument for me. I like the look and the sound of the harp, and I'm proud of myself because I play the harp, and I am a member of the Harper Hall and Culinary Society.

Molly Singer

My name is Molly Singer. I am 7 years old in First Grade. My Dad and I always go to concerts at the art museum. One night, Yolanda Kondanassis was playing the harp. It sounded beautiful. I asked my Dad if I could learn to play the harp. I went backstage and got to play a few notes. I asked my Dad again a few weeks later. He said "yes." My teacher's name is Xiao Lei Salovara. She's a professional harpist that I like a lot! I've been playing for over eight months now. Everyday, me and my Dad struggle to learn new pieces. I am playing "Marelles" #7, 8, and 9. I played a rental harp for eight months, then, four days ago I got my harp. It is a brown Troubadour! I think it's great. I think playing the harp is great, too.
